Character Name: Mo Ran
Canon: The Husky and His White Cat Shizun

Their Story/Who They Are In Short: Mo Ran is the protagonist of the story, which begins with him as the 32-year-old Emperor Taxian-jun who drinks poison and kills himself once his motivation to live has gone. Rather than getting to go to Hell to repent for his crimes, he wakes up in his own body at 16 years old, at which point he resolves to right the wrongs of his past life. This is originally a selfish enough goal; save the man he loves from dying and avoid going down the wicked and lonely path of becoming a monstrous tyrant, but over time he begins to feel guilt and fear over his past life, and he questions much of the things he "knew" from that life. He gains new context, realizing the hatred for his teacher he'd once clung to as his reason for living was love instead, and he turns his life around thanks to this insight. In his past life he had been obsessive, possessive, and cruel to Chu Wanning, the man who had taken him in as disciple, which had been influenced by a flower that erased every happy memory he had until he had lost his mind, becoming a shell of a man full of fury and spite, but no such flower had been planted in him in the new timeline, allowing him to grow into a much more compassionate and forgiving man until the crimes of his other life came back to haunt him in very real, physical form- his corpse from that time, puppeted by the man he'd once thought was the lost love of his life. Though enemies at first, he and his other self reveal the truth of what had been done to them and eventually join forces to save both of their worlds, their shizun, then merging into one to save themselves as well.
Mo Ran is airheaded, not much for reading or writing, a simple boy who desperately wants to belong and forms an unhealthy attachment to Chu Wanning, his shizun. He's clumsy and a little rude, but earnest and passionate, and every three days, he becomes someone else, Taxian-jun. This other personality gets his chance at redemption when his soul comes to the fore. He's an overwhelming presence who hides his insecurities behind a massive ego. He's pushy and selfish, likes to get his way and childishly throws tantrums when he doesn't. He still refers to himself as 'this venerable one', but he's probably even more airheaded than his other personality, basically illiterate before an 8-year span he spent alone, reading, and easy to distract. He's become less cruel without the flower inside of him, but he's still prone to violence and shows of force.
Both forms of Mo Ran share the same history and love/lust/obsession with Chu Wanning, and they share all their memories before the age of 32 in the original timeline, diverging when Mo Ran dies/is reborn in both timelines.
Rough Overview of Superhuman Abilities/Powers: Mo Ran is a cultivator, which in this series means he is able to do some things like using qi to heal, fly on swords, and shoot blasts, etc. He has a few special moves he can do like the Zhenlong Chess Formation in which he can create Go pieces out of spiritual energy which can control a person's body if they are implanted in someone(black pieces) or allow his consciousness to fully take over another person's(white pieces). In addition to this has two Holy Weapons that are tied to his soul, Bugui, a scabbard-less black saber that he can control without needing to touch, and Jiangui, a willow vine from a sacred tree that functions as a whip. He is able to wield Jiangui in the same way as Chu Wanning, using it to summon vicious winds which destroy everything in the vicinity, down to the grass, and able to summon countless vines from the ground to grab foes and drag them into the ground which seals but does not destroy them, and Jiangui can interrogate others, compelling them to tell the truth or suffer great pain. Can be used on ghosts/the dead, but just scatters souls, allowing them to reform in time.
Any Extenuating Circumstances: Mo Ran IS one person according to the way people function in canon. They've three living souls and seven spirits in a body, but one of his three living souls is fully Taxian-jun, which makes him function as if he's a second personality, but it is just. He's just one guy who acts different every now and then and they do treat Taxian-jun as if he's another person, but also just like he's age-regressing(which is confusing because Mo Ran is physically 22, Taxian-jun was physically 32, they've both just existed for 8 years without each other before reuniting). It's timeline fuckery but they're functionally more like a system than anything.
